Thai Yoga Massage, or Traditional Thai Massage, has its roots in the wider Indian traditions of Ayurveda and Yoga as well as Buddhism. It’s a holistic therapy that works not just on the physical body, but on the energy systems through the 10 Sen lines (meridians), bringing the whole being into balance. Receiving this bodywork is often described as feeling as if you are being cared for, held in a safe space, allowed to simply be. Treatments include a combination of acupressure, assisted passive stretches, joint and spine mobilisations, gentle rocking techniques to encourage complete relaxation. A combination of anatomical knowledge, intuition, and sensing or tuning into the energy system are used to find the right combination of techniques and the right approach for each individual.

Treatments are given with the client wearing soft, comfortable clothing. This bodywork is offered on a firm futon on the floor, with the therapist using bodyweight rather than strength, and working with a meditative focus and flowing sequence of stretches and pressure.  Each session is different and tailored to the needs of the individual, they can be as gentle or as deep as needed.

Thai Yoga Massage can be used to relieve pain, or as a general preventative treatment to keep our bodies and energy systems as healthy as possible. It can also help improve flexibility and posture, can be beneficial for digestion, circulation, anxiety, insomnia, and breathing. Treatments are deeply relaxing and often leave people with a sense of peace and wellbeing.

I have trained with Ralf Marzen at the Mudita School of Thai Yoga Massage in London and Thailand. I believe it’s important to continue to train and develop as a practitioner, and attend courses and workshops every year to go deeper into this beautiful practice. The many advanced Thai Yoga Massage trainings I have completed, along with studying Integrated CranioSacral Biodynamics, provide me with a wide range of different techniques to work with, to offer both deep pressure and very gentle, subtle ways of working.I bring my background as a yoga teacher, my own reading on mind-body-emotion connections, and my meditation practice into my way of working. I love to share this bodywork its many benefits.

I offer appointments in Summertown at the Summertown Clinic. Please contact the clinic to book, on 01865 558561, or email me at sophiaargyris@hotmail.com.
